Retirement / Pension Actuary, Sr. Associate

Summary:
Works on a variety of client service projects under the supervision of more experienced consultants and with appropriate client contact. These services include actuarial valuations, plan administration and special projects, all at the level appropriate to the individuals knowledge and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Handles the preparation of valuation data. Includes receiving and reviewing data from clients to insure internal and year-to-year consistency.
  • Has telephone contact with clients on data and administrative matters.
  • May be able to complete parts of a valuation.
  • Assists in the preparation of letters and reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of Schedule Bs and government filings.
  • Special projects or assignments as instructed by your supervisor/manager


Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Experience - Generally 1-3 years
  • Exams Completion of the EA1 exam or completion of at least one of the Society of Actuary exams (from among P, FM, M and C
  • Cooperation and Teamwork acts as part of a team, works well with others, and takes fair share of the workload.
  • Initiative and a sense of responsibility takes personal responsibility for the timeliness and quality of the work he or she performs. Welcomes new challenges, opportunities and responsibilities. Has a sense of urgency (as needed to meet client deadlines).
  • Sense of curiosity and rapid learning -- has the ability to learn new things quickly wants to understand the big picture and seeks help to understand it. Demonstrates sound learning and understanding in a reasonable period of time.
  • Integrity accepts responsibility for his or her work and interactions with others. Willing to stand up for what he or she believes, even if it is a minority opinion. Admits mistakes and works to correct them.
  • Capabilities and Competencies Can do the work required in a reasonable amount of time with high degree of accuracy, including benefit administration (retirement benefit calculations) and data manipulation (capable of using the available tools to create the necessary data for the project at hand). Basic oral and written communication skills. Given a project can, with some help and within the context of his or her base of knowledge, lay out a plan for achieving the objective in an efficient manner (i.e., individuals who have to be directed each step or all steps of a project generally dont meet this criteria).
