Title:  Software Engineer

Location:  Washington, DC

Duration:  6 months contract to hire

 
Description:

• The Software Engineer is central to delivery of energy reduction and sustainability services to our clients. 
  
  
• She/he will develop the technical architecture, as well as furnish detailed technical design and development of software modules and components. 
  
  
• This individual will also manage the new technological interface that will benefit both internal and external users, providing communication capabilities between clients and employees and monitored buildings. 
  
  
• She/he should have a solid understanding of data archiving, migration, and visualization and especially SW integration. 
  
  
• The ideal candidate has strong technical and business skills, outfitting him or her with a logical problem-solving approach, creativity to create unique technological solutions, business savvy to assess feasibility of options, and communication skills to portray those ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  
  
• She/he should also have a strong work ethic and an ability to work effectively with team members and clients.
  
  

 

Candidate Skills Requirements:

• Must be analytical, adept to problem solving, and have a strong attention to detail
  
  
• Creativity in using technology to solve problems
  
  
• Good understanding of object-oriented architecture and best practices, including Unified Modeling Language (UML) and design patterns
  
  
• Good communication, interpersonal skills, and professionalism
  
  
• Strong understanding of Object Orient Design documentation and methodologies
  
  
• Excellent time management ability
  
  
• Strong relational database experience including proficiency in SQL, stored procedures and database architecture
  
  
• Experience developing consumer-oriented web sites and services, with Microsoft-based web technologies, with JavaScript, CSS, , and XML, with agile development and unit testing methods
  
  
• Self-directed and mission-driven to meet team schedule and quality goals
  
  
• Well organized; able to multi-task and set priorities
  
  
• Prefer at least 5 years of work experience; with at least one year of professional experience in a similar position
  
  
• Comfortable in a demanding and growth-oriented business culture
  
  

 
Candidate Qualifications:

*  Experienced (5+years) in database design (very critical starting with a blank slate and want to do it right so arent in trouble a year from now) need someone who can provide a flexible, extensible, expandable, database design.

*  Experienced (5+ years) in systems integration (various methodologies depends on frequency, volume, availability, security)

*  Experienced with solutions development

*  Experienced with Microsoft products SQL Server, etc.

*  Ability to recommend the best way to integrate with Company partners and which language to use (either Microsoft or Java based) 

*  Familiar with product development (low priority, but nice to have)

*  Nice if they understand building systems (low priority, but nice to have) Tridium experience would be preferred, but not necessary. 

• Undergraduate degree in computer science or software engineering
  
  
• Interest in and knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability is desirable
  
  
• Applicant must have experience with object oriented design and programming in the JAVA environment
  
  
• Experience with web site design and graphics a plus
  
  
• Understanding of (1 year), UML (1 year), RDBMS (1 year), JavaScript  (1 year), Java  (1 year), CSS, J2EE, JSP, Servlets
  
  
• Knowledge of MS 365, MS SharePoint, MS Access, etc.+
  
  
• Proficiency with the Tridium Platform is desirable
  
  
• Experience in Axon and/or Fantom is especially desirable
  
  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (The physical effort generally associated with this position.)

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing approximately up to 50 pounds such as files, documents, and some equipment. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level. External work involves travel in reliable employee-provided or public transportation, walkthrough inspections of building spaces and other areas including but not limited to mechanical and electrical rooms, attics and crawlspaces, as well as climbing ladders.
