Correctional Support Specialist

  • Provide a range of comprehensive community-based case management services to incarcerated persons with severe and persistent mental illness at the Charles County Detention Center
  • Serve as a liaison to the Core Service Agency and Charles County Court system to identify and coordinate community resources in lieu of jail time for individuals with mental illness
  • Receive referrals from the Charles County Detention Center, interview and assess clients prior to discharge for direct services, develop a case plan for the client including written short-term goals and tasks
  • Develop and coordinate efforts with the Court, the County Attorney and Public Defender for treatment and/or alternatives to incarceration
  • Re-evaluate goals with clients at regular intervals prior to discharge or release from court
  • Provide direct assistance at time of discharge or release from court to establish housing, application for entitlements, and procure psychiatric and medication services
  • Serve as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinical case team at the Detention Center and with court system
  • Attend court hearings and present recommendations to the Court; participate in meetings and case conferences with treatment professionals, community services providers and Court personnel
  • Make appropriate referrals for emotional, substance abuse, legal, medical, dental, educational, recreational, vocational, employment and housing needs for clients up to 60 days after initial contact
  • Create and maintain case records which meet all specifications of COMAR 10.0998, including, but not limited to assessments, case notes, case plans, service updates, referrals and discharge summaries
  • Maintain and submit reports as required
 Requirements
  • Masters of Social Work or Masters degree in a relevant clinical discipline
  • 2-3 years experience working with incarcerated adults including but not limited to those with serious and persistent mental disorders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Better than average interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of computer applications (MS Office, Excel, Outlook)
  • Willingness to travel to various service locations
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
