Network Tools Software Developer

Responsibilities:
Develop, update, and maintain a variety of software tools and utilities to aid the operation, engineering, and maintenance of our global IP and Optical networks.

Particulars for the job:

These tools are typically written in a high-level scripting language, e.g. PHP or Perl, and run in a UNIX environment.

The tools utilize information from a variety of sources, including text files, internal databases (MS SQL, MySQL, etc.), and real-time data from network equipment.

These tools may have a Web interface and/or a CLI and may be used to generate various graphical and text reports, update database records, create or update equipment configurations, etc.

This individual will be taking over responsibility for and organizing a variety of adhoc tools and scripts developed by our IP Engineers, Network Engineers and Optical Engineers. In addition this individual will be asked to visualize future tools and lead the development efforts in building them.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years experience programming in PHP/Perl/HTML in a UNIX/Linux/FreeBSD environment.
• 3-5 years experience with relational databases MSSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
• Strong background in IP Networking and familiarity with Cisco routers, switches, and optical networking equipment.
• Familiarity with open source tools (RRDTool, Rancid, etc) is highly desirable.
• Applicant should have a bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent field.
• The ideal candidate will be a computer science major with work experience as an IP Engineer or in a heavy technical support role within an Internet Service Provider who is a visionary programmer at heart and has a desire to develop tools which will be used by our Network Engineering Teams.
