We have an excellent opportunity for a Government Grants Director in our Individual Planned Giving Department, to be based in Washington, DC.
The Government Grants Director will direct activities related to sponsored project management for the American Heart Association. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Individual Planned Giving, and will be responsible for securing government grants for the American Heart Association, providing investigators with a full range of pre-award and post-award services that facilitate the development, preparation, and submission of grant and contract proposals for external funding including budget allocation and project initiation. This position will work with the Finance Office and external funding agencies to review budgets and business proposals for appropriateness and completeness of content to verify compliance with sponsoring organization’s guidelines and American Heart Association’s policies and procedures while overseeing procedures for the monitoring of all current grant budgets, from both a fiscal year and grant year perspective.
Responsibilities include checking relevant sections of grant proposals with budgets and budget justifications to ensure consistency; coordinate submission of large multi-center proposals ensuring that all applicable direct and indirect cost rates have been applied; assist with program progress reports; responsible for tracking grant/contract proposals and other documentation through signature/approval processes; help to advise/inform volunteer relationships while coordinating with volunteers, communication, and cultivation.
The Government Grants Director coordinates subcontracts with sponsor agencies and the Finance Office; advises staff about changes in sponsored research policies and procedures; works with procurement and legal on subcontracts; develops a departmental database to track awards; ensures ongoing accuracy of budgeted indirect cost rates and fringe benefit rates throughout the life cycle of awarded grants; ensures that anticipated promotions and annual cost of living increases are calculated into budgets; manages post-award functions such as contract negotiation, rebudgeting, changes in scope of work, and any other actions needed to keep grants and contracts in compliance with sponsor regulations, while identifying budget issues, making recommendations to address concerns, and resolving problems.
Job Requirements
Qualified candidates should have the following experience:
- Bachelors degree required
- 3+ years’ Government Grant/Development experience
- Requires knowledge and experience with contract policies and processes as well as assessment of required deviations from established norm
- Ability to oversee multiple projects in a fast paced environment
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Experience with MS Office
