Job Description
The Network Engineer reports directly to the Manager, Network Services. The Analyst is responsible for supporting the development and coordination of network strategies and solutions e, including LAN/WAN and third-party network management in support of AARP business objectives. The Analyst supports strategic business relationships with technology vendors, suppliers, and, internal and external business partners and collaborates with key IT Operations stakeholders to achieve goals and define objectives.
The Analyst is expected to demonstrate moderate depth of technical expertise in mobility and business conferencing. Additionally, the Analyst is expected to demonstrate One AARP cultural attributes and behaviors in all interactions.
Functional / Technical Responsibilities
- Support network systems and solutions for the connectivity of all AARP state and remote offices, technology centers and facilities.
- Document all network solutions and migrate solutions from development and testing to production.
- Provide technical guidance and assist customers in formulating solutions for their network needs.
- Facilitate the execution of network hardware and software life-cycle management policies and procedures to meet business needs and ensure compliance with AARP acquisition and asset management best-practices.
- Maintain processes, procedures and standards for the operation of effective data networks, specific to LAN/WAN, mobility and third-party network management.
- Assist in monitoring the execution of carrier service level agreements for all AARP network service contracts.
- Support major network infrastructure projects, solutions and upgrades within the enterprise infrastructure.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments and provide recommendations to IT Operations management on network technologies and issues to build better solutions that support and drive business decisions.
- Strong working knowledge of QOS, particularly in the areas of Voice over IP and Video traffic.
- Experience with Solarwinds, eHealth, Visio and CiscoWorks, ability to create objects, rules, reports and alerts within these systems.
- Familiar with Cisco Switches and routers, knowledge of OSPF, EIGRP and BGP routing protocols.
- Able to support and troubleshoot Cisco wireless infrastructure, including access point, WLC, WCS and ISE.
- Provide support for Juniper and Fortinet Firewalls, knowledge of VPN and SSL tunnels.
- Knowledge and familiarity with F5 Load Balancers.
Relationship Management
- Work in partnership with IT Operations management on strategic initiatives related to network services to continuously improve policies, standards and procedures by anticipating issues, providing advice and sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Develop positive working relationships with other team members and business partners and partner across the ITS team to align with AARP internal and external client demands.
Job Requirements
Required
- Bachelors degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
- 3-5 years related experience.
- Leadership experience managing direct reports.
- Experience in data communications, including supporting the development and implementation of enterprise TCP/IP networks and support services, with particular focus on converged IP data, QOS, voice, and video networks.
- Particular experience with MPLS, ATM, Frame Relay, and SONET network deployments required.
Preferred
- Masters degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
