International Broadcaster (Multimedia) (Russian) at Washington

JOB SUMMARY:

The International Broadcaster serves as a Multi-media Producer/Editor (Online) in the Russian Service of the Voice of America, with responsibility for producing, and editing content for the Service’s live and recorded Internet-TV studio shows, as well as reporting for multiple online platform, including social media.

 

THIS POSITION IS COVERED BY AN UNION AGREEMENT

The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi cultural organization that encompasses all U.S. civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of the Voice of America, which delivers high quality, multimedia programming in 44 languages to audiences worldwide; the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti); the International Broadcasting Bureau, which provides transmission, administrative, and other support services; and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

·  Incumbent will report on daily news events and developments and stories of particular of interest to VOA’s global audiences.

·  Provide assistance to production team by arranging, doing interviews and segments to be included in the more in-depth stories.

·  The incumbent, through research, planning and the use of a variety of news sources, will be responsible for writing his/her own news stories in Russian for use by VOA Russian Service on Internet-TV.

·  Development of stories is carried out by securing timely and topical interviews with appropriate experts and story subjects for publication on VOA Russian website and for use as elements in the Internet-TV shows

·  Incumbent writes, voices and produces completed packages; prepares a completed text integrating audio or video, as appropriate; voices the text editing in taped material.

·  Works with Service Chief and other editors to conceive, develop and implement major program projects and new approaches to programming with focus on development of innovative television programs

 

·  Serves as producer/editor of live and recorded Internet-TV shows in charge of their content and production elements

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level which is directly related to this line of work.

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.  Examples are: experience in writing/producing/editing comprehensive scripts and rundowns for live or taped TV programs and shows, and/or feature stories for a recognized  media outlet such as a major TV channel, or multi-media website;  or experience overseeing production of TV programs or segments reaching wide audience in the target area. Such experience must have clearly demonstrated the ability to (1) understand and write/produce about variety of subjects  both domestic and international, (2) produce content and engage audiences of varying backgrounds and interests, (3) work under deadline pressure, (4) exercise sound and independent editorial judgement, (5) use adequate technologies to provide a complete multimedia package for VOA’s Russian TV and digital media properties, (6) use social media to source and verify news and information, to connect with audiences and deliver relevant content via social media, and (7) serve as producer/line producer/booker/editor for internet-TV shows and programs.
