Staff Assistant, GS-0301-07/09 at Washington

JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of the Interior is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and affiliated Islanders.

 

This position is located with the Department of Interior, Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians in the Office of the Principal Deputy Special Trustee; Office of Business Management. 

 

The individual selected for this position will serve as a Staff Assistant to the Office of Special Trustee for Business Management to plan, program and follow-through to completion a variety of administrative, programmatic, and related responsibilities necessary for the proper management and control of the complex activities of the office. 

 

Salary Information:  GS-07  $42,209 – $54,875 per annum. GS-09 $51,630 - $67,114 per annum.  First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

 

This is a permanent, full-time, appointment.  The position has a full performance level of GS-9 and is located in Washington, DC. 


OST has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Major Duties (The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position.)

 

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Organize and maintain office files.
•  Make hotel and airline travel arrangements, coordinate meetings and conferences with office visitors and OST’s Director and reconcile travel vouchers.
•  Compose and edit a variety of office documents utilizing a variety of office software, such as word processing and spreadsheets to prepare correspondence, briefs, charts and reports.
•  Answer phones and in person inquires and directing visitors independently.
•  Procure office equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

 

GS-07 Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-07 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience.  Specialized experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.  To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05).  Specialized experience is defined as: demonstrated experience:  organize and maintain office files; receive telephone calls; assist in making hotel and airline travel arrangements; greets office visitors; draft office correspondence.
OR
Education:  Possession of 1 year of graduate-level education or a Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement* (SAA) in a field related to the duties of this position.
OR
Combination: Have a combination of post baccalaureate education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

GS-09 Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-9 level, applicants must possess at least one full year of specialized experience.  Specialized experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.  To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-07).  Specialized experience is defined as: demonstrated experience:  Composing and editing a variety of office documents utilizing a variety of office software (e.g. word processing and spreadsheets); answering phones and in person inquiries and directing visitors independently; setting up and monitoring deadlines; evaluating supply needs and managing equipment service procurement actions.
OR
Education:  Possession of 2 years progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree or LLB or JD
OR
Combination: Have a combination of specialized experience and education that equals 100% of the requirement for the GS-9 level.
