Sr. Telecom Engineer at Washington

Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Senior Telecom Engineer works with network engineers and staff to ensure appropriate fundamental configuration, capacity planning and design, of voice communications systems. The programming and maintenance of voice switches, voice mail systems, auto attendant systems, call management systems, and traffic monitoring systems. Tech will perform deployments to include new installations, equipment upgrades, equipment relocations etc. Works with vendors, customers, and third parties to evaluate, improve, and implement next-generation products. Top Secret clearance and 25% Travel required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform voice communications hardware and software installations and Cross-connect wiring as needed.
Coordinate with approved communications vendors when authorized, on behalf of the local field office director and OCIO.
Perform installation and relocation requests in accordance with move/add/change processes and procedures.
Support enterprise-wide communications system maintenance and trouble calls, which include, but are not limited to voicemail reset, number changes, and remote equipment inquiries.
Use Government-furnished remote management tools and administer local communications applications.
Perform all required back up and restoration functions for data residing on voice communications systems
Develop processes, procedures, and documentation required for voice network administration.
Maintain legacy Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems from Avaya/Nortel.
Maintain emerging systems such as VoIP.
Ensure appropriate fundamental configuration, capacity planning and design, of voice communications system.
Executing traffic analysis studies to ensure the telecommunications system operates at peak performance with minimal blocking of calls (P.01 or better grade of service) within the switch and to locations outside of the switch
Interfacing with telecommunications vendors, architects, cabling vendors and electrical vendors on new or expanded voice telecommunications systems to ensure all infrastructure, transport facilities, space requirements for equipment, and electrical power requirements are documented and installed on schedule.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:

Employee will be subject to a Department of Defense background security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Active Top Secret or higher clearance may be required.

Job Requirements


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:
Bachelors degree, in an engineering, computer, telecommunications or related field; equivalent related technical experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
5+ years of related experience a wide variety of telecommunications technologies, protocols, equipment, concepts, architectures and trade studies
Ability to troubleshoot network incidents and provide a resolution report to management and/or customer
Ability to document solutions with MS Office products. Specifically Word, Excel, Visio, and Project
Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with management and peers
Ability to interact with all team members in a mentoring role. This includes assistance in troubleshooting, and transferring knowledge in regards to systems and topologies deployed.
General knowledge of various voice communications systems.
Experience in designing and deploying Avaya and Nortel communications systems.
Proficient with design and configuration of VoIP phone systems.

Preferred:
DHS or DOS experience
Avaya ACIS Certification
Avaya ACSS Certification
Avaya VoIP System Certification
